As we move toward more shared and distributed leadership, the traditional leader-follower-goal model of leadership starts to wear thin. As an alternative, DAC (direction-alignment-commitment) leadership captures the essence of the traditional model, but also supports other leadership constructs. More information on DAC leadership construction is found in this short whitepaper.

About Leader 42
Leader42 has meaning on multiple levels. First is that people tend to focus on the top leader when looking for leadership effectiveness. After all, the top person (Leader1) is the one who is seen as setting direction and can veto any action elsewhere in the organization. However, this overlooks the power of the grassroots to influence action in the organization. This power of influence is driven by personal power, not positional power. Often overlooked in the traditional view of leadership is how often passive-aggressive behavior undermines positional power. Yet, personal power can carry the day due to the strength of personal relationships.
The second meaning behind Leader42 goes beyond the 42th level of leadership rank to involve the Ultimate Question - what is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything? 42. If you don't understand the answer, you need to understand the question better. Searching for answers is common. Less common is the search for the right questions to ask.
